The Torre Maestra 260 steps

The keep of the medieval castle, 33 metres high. In July and August it opens on Sundays 3pm–7pm; from September to June, by request to the town hall.

Indicative ticket price: 3 euros, free up to age 12.

Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Hal 250 steps

Early 17th-century church, built on the remains of Santa Maria di Buzzignano extra muros. Don't miss the fresco cycle and the Madonna with Child on a slate slab.

Free visit every day, indicatively 9am–6pm.

The Old Windmill 1.8 km on foot

The village's oldest monument: built as a watchtower around the year 1000, later turned into a mill for grinding wheat.

Short scenic walk, beautiful at sunset.

The Dome of Vicoforte 25 km

The Sanctuary of Regina Montis Regalis is a national monument and houses the largest elliptical dome in the world. Guided tours also go up to the dome.

Perfect for a half-day trip combined with Mondovì.

The village's signature cheese: soft robiola, made from sheep's and cow's milk, perfect fresh with oil and pepper or to take home.

Safari zoo in Frazione Rea: drive-through route, pedestrian area, reptile house and around 350 animals from some fifty species.

Always check opening times and tickets before you set off.

The lavender fields 13 km, June and July

Sale San Giovanni is Piedmont's little Provence: lavender, medicinal herbs, trails and high views in the middle weeks of summer.

Best time: mid-June to mid-July, varying with the season.

Bossolasco, the village of roses 10 minutes by car

A tidy hilltop village, lovely for a slow stroll among roses, shops and scenic balconies.

Best paired with San Benedetto Belbo or a trip along the Strada Romantica.
