Here the wind smells of forest, of wine and stories

Two apartments in a stone building on the village square, at 559 metres. Right below, the 13th-century tower; all around, the hills of Barolo and the hazelnut groves of the Alta Langa.

Welcome

The village that stands sentinel over the whole Langhe

Murazzano sits on a ridge at 559 metres, proud and a little windswept. They call it the shield of the Langhe: from here the eye runs over vineyards, chestnut woods, the arc of the Alps. And on the clearest days, they say, you can even see the glimmer of the Ligurian sea.

Our house is a stone building overlooking Piazza Umberto I, patiently restored while keeping the brick vaults and original walls. Inside there are Luna and Sole: two independent apartments, or a single house for eight, if there are many of you.

Walking through the stone streets you can feel the air of Fenoglio's and Pavese's novels: the real Langhe, the one that's never in a hurry.

When to come

Every season has his Langhe

Up here the air is always four or five degrees cooler than on the plain. And the village calendar never really stops.

March, June happening now

Spring

The hazelnut groves wake up, the trails dry out. The season for e-bikes between villages and picnics on the lawns by the tower.

July, August happening now

Summer

The cool evenings of the Alta Langa and "Passeggiando di sera": a wandering dinner through the village streets starring Murazzano DOP cheese.

September, November happening now

Autumn

The grape harvest, the hazelnut picking and Alba's white truffle half an hour away. The Langhe everyone dreams of, with half the crowds.

December, February happening now

Winter

The fog rising from the valleys, the Christmas Eve Living Nativity, Barolo-braised beef in the taverns. The most beautiful silence of the year.

The table

Three treasures born on these hills

Murazzano DOP robiola cheese, up close
Pliny the Elder was crazy about it

Murazzano DOP

Robiola made from Langhe sheep's milk, fresh, sweet, faintly tangy. One of Italy's oldest cheeses, and it shares its name with our home.

Freshly picked Tonda Gentile hazelnuts, in your hands
the heart of gianduja

Tonda Gentile

The hazelnut most sought after by pastry chefs the world over. The groves trace the hills in neat rows all the way to the horizon.

A glass of Barolo
half an hour from the wineries

Barolo and Alta Langa

The great reds of the Langhe and the sparkling wines of Alta Langa DOCG. We'll point you to family-run wineries, where the producer opens the door themselves.

As the village tells it

Watch out for the masche

The Alta Langa is the land of the masche, the witches of Piedmont. In Murazzano they say they appear to travellers as black cats, or as sudden gusts of wind on autumn evenings. They're not evil, the old folk say: just mischievous. If at night you hear the beams creak, it's only the house telling its own story too.

...and if a black cat crosses the square in front of you, say hello to it for us

Only two apartments: better move fast

You don't just visit the Langhe. You actually live in it.

Send us the dates and how many you are: we'll reply the same day, almost always within an hour. And if you like, we'll plan the itinerary together.
